The project in question envisages the construction of a building with irregular dimensions in the plan, measuring approximately 200x80 m. The structure, which is also irregular in height, in addition to a basement floor extends over two levels above ground. Structurally, the Museum is characterised by the presence of seismic isolation at the head level of the basement structures. This divides the building into two parts, the basement and the insulated superstructure. The choice of seismic isolation follows from the important seismic actions, therefore in order to limit the size and quantity of reinforcement for the structural elements and also in order to guarantee the resilience of the building. The seismic protection strategy for buildings is described below. However, it is emphasised that the main benefits of this design choice are: 1) reduction of the structural dimensions in elevation and foundation; 2) reduction of the quantities of reinforcement for the members in elevation and foundation; 3) protection from structural and non-structural damage in the event of an earthquake; 4) elimination of structural joints along the planimetric and altimetric development of the structure.
